LAURA CAIN, OWNER

A civil rights attorney with the Maryland Disability Law Center in Baltimore, Laura has worked to end human and legal rights violations of individuals with mental health and substance use disorders, and advocate for a safe and sane behavioral health system. Recognizing that the majority of people who end up in psychiatric hospitals and correctional facilities have suffered traumatic experiences– often beginning in childhood – Laura turned to filmmaking as a way to shine a light on the urgent need to recognize, understand, and address trauma. She is passionate about giving survivors a voice and revealing their beauty, complexity and humanity to viewers.
